FTTH shipments
Dittberner reports that FTTH shipments were up 18% in 2Q06 qoq and 245% from just a year ago. NTT and Verizon are the two major customers. NTT in Japan continues to provide over 80% of the total global market,while Verizon announced that it had 375,000 FTTH subscribers to its FiOS high-speed Internet service . Mitsubishi, Sumitomo, Hitachi, and Tellabs are the four main suppliers. Current dominant technology is GePON, far ahead of BPON and GPON. Ovum estimates that there are some 463k FTTH subscribers in the US in 2Q06 (+34% qoq),with Verizon accounting for 81%. Japan should have some 5.4m FTTH subscribers at the end of March.
According to CIR, the market for modules and components used in FTTx networks will grow from $629m in 2006 to $1.5bn by 2011.
