IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS):
what was the hot topic in Cannes this year made an important step towards interworking, on behalf of the GSM Association (GSMA). All actors in the IMS sphere - network operators, infrastructure and device vendors, and long distance carriers – were invited to verify the interoperability of IMS-based services between networks and devices. Voice, instant messaging (IM), video-sharing and real-time gaming applications were tested, both over direct interconnection and via the GSMA's own GRX inter operator backbone. Performance achieved was acceptable, and further test will be conducted worldwide. 2006 should be a pivotal year for IMS.
