Huawei pre-announced deals with Telefonica Spain. Without giving more details, Huawei seems having some good commitments from Telefonica for orders this year. After BT last week, It should be its second big splash in Europe.

Microsoft intends to enter the business intelligence market and will launch Maestro in September. The application will be sold independently and could mine data from Oracle, SAP and Siebel.

STMicroelectronics and Octasic will develop and deliver a new family of Voice-over-Packet Telecom ICs.

UTStarcom is restructuring as China PAS market is slowing. Part of the change is 1,400 layoffs.

ZTE has planned to enter the Australia market and found a local branch in Melbourne.

ECI Telecom is said to be buying Laurel (US), a B-RAS and edge-routing specialist. The deal should be announced very soon.
