IBM could cut up to 13,000 jobs in Europe, or up to 10% of its worldwide workforce. Big Blue will first cut jobs in “heavy salaries” countries, such as Germany, France and the UK. In Germany, 20,000 people could be concerned, and jobs transfered in Eastern Europe. In the UK, about 1,000 jobs should be cut, and about an equal number in Sweden and Denmark. They will be transfered in India. Some 850 jobs could be cut in France, and the IBM EMEA headquarters could be dismantled.

Sprint is considering cutting some 550 jobs, the final step in an already-announced plan to eliminate a total of 5,850 positions.

UTStarcom is planning to shed 1400 jobs, or 17% of its global workforce.
