Boingo continues to expand in Europe. With its last deal with Ireland-based Bitbuzz Ltd, it has an European footprint including 7,000 hotspots in more than 18 countries. Worldwide, Boingo has more han 17,000 WiFi hotspots.

Wayport bought Denmark-based NetPoint A/S. Wayport claims more than 9,000 wired and wireless broadband locations around the world.

NTL and Telewest, two UK cable operators, are preparing a € 8bn merger, in a response to compete with BT in the telecoms space and BSkyB in the pay-TV sector.

NTL has sold its Irish telecom operations to UP, via Morgan Stanley, for $ 417m.
