HSDPA status

According to GSMA, 45 commercial HSDPA networks have been launched worldwide, up 150% over the past quarter, and targets 80 networks opened at the end of the year. About 108 HSDPA networks are in deployment or launched in 51 countries. Europe currently has 15 countries providing HSDPA service, and 7 others will deploy or plan HSDPA soon. HSDPA will help implement IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) architecture and drive mobile data growth. "IMS provides an architecture that facilitates the creation and deployment of complex multimedia applications, and provides service transparency and integration between networks," stated Chris Pearson, President of 3G Americas. "UMTS/HSPA combined with IMS together provide significant value added benefits from innovative services that will elevate customer satisfaction, leading to lower churn and increased subscription levels for new applications." 3G Americas has published a white paper that focuses specifically on IMS architecture, as defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
