Point Topic has released its 1Q06 World Broadband Statistics. The worldwide total of broadband lines grew to 229.0m lines during 1Q06, up 36%, adding some 60m lines in 12 months. APAC accounts for 40% of the world market, Europe (WE+EE) for 31%, EMEA for 35%, NA for 24%, for 28%. Cable and alternative technologies are gradually losing out to DSL worldwide. DSL accounts for 66% of the market, followed by cable with 24%, and FTTx with 9%.In NA, cable amounts to about 30m lines and a 55% market share of the worldwide cable market. remains the world’s largest DSL market in Q1 2006, reaching 29.4m lines.

The top ten countries with broadband access are: with 48.3m lines, with 41.2m and with 23.4m, then S. Korea with 12.4m, with 11.5m, and with 10.8m each, then , and . In term of growth, remains the world’s largest DSL market in Q1 2006, reaching 29.4m lines, then (1.0m), (0.95m), (0.94m) and (0.86m).
