HP revamps its organization, with a renamed business unit, called Communications, Media & Entertainment (CME) group, formerly the Network and Service Provider business. The unit will focus on the converging telecom/entertainment space and target fixed and mobile network operators, equipment vendors, and any company that is creating and distributing digital content. It will have about $9bn in turnover, or 10% of HP’ s sales.

Nokia said it is open to strengthening its networks business. The jewel of its Networks unit is of course its mobile infrastructure portfolio (ranked second to Ericsson in the world), but the unit includes also fixed line business (with weak presence in this market).

Oracle is to buy Israeli Demantra, a supply chain on-demand planning expert.

Motorola will acquire 3G protocol stack software specialist TTPCom for $192m. Motorola should be interested in TTPCom’ s AJAR platform, which is used in mass-market 2G and 3G phones.
