Mobile handset sales

According to Forward Concepts, older-technology phone sales (TDMA, PDC, but also CdmaOne and GSM) will decline, while sales of newer technologies like EDGE, W-CDMA and EV-DO are on the rise. GSM handset sales could drop 23% this year, while W-CDMA handset sales would increase 165% to 45m units, and EV-DO devices would increase 65% to 16m units. The study forecast that handheld phone devices could grow 4.5% to 746m units this year (including PHS devices in China).
