Ericsson launches interactive (via SMS or MMS) Mobile TV application at the Milia TV and broadcasting event. It also targets to commercialize HSDPA in 2006 in Japan.

 

Pantech (S. Korea) is considering building a manufacturing plant in Brazil for mobile handsets.

 

Motorola will introduce low-end GSM mobile phones (under $40) in India.

 

Qualcomm WCDMA chipset is interoperable with NTT FOMA 3G network.

 

Seven (US) has acquired Smartner (Finland), a developer of mobile email solutions. With the acquisition, Seven will be better positioned to compete with RIM and its Blackberry flagship.

 

Microsoft could also be a threat for RIM when announcing next month its “Magneto” software to compete with Blackberry. Microsoft, however, faced difficulties up to now to take off in the mobile market.

 

Siemens is partnering with Canon to allow Siemens camera-phone users to print their images on Canon printers.
