Microsoft teaming with Qualcomm

Microsoft is gradually picking at the mobile OS market with its Windows Mobile 5, and harvesting the fruits of its strategy. More and more handset makers are using its OS. Now, Qualcomm has developed chipsets complying with Windows Mobile 5 under a strategic deal with Microsoft. First chips would be available by 2H06. This can boost Microsoft' s penetration as Qualcomm is selling 3G chipset worldwide and the market is expected to boom in coming years. Diffusion Group assesses Microsoft should command 28% of the market, ahead of Symbian and Linux.
