Few weeks ago, I reported some concerns on the BPL market taking off rapidly, but also noticed some hope with major partners (Google and IBM) supporting the project. An announcement last week brings another positive view. BPL will be deployed in an area covering 1.5m households in Paris neighborhood (France) in 86 communities. After 3 years in test networks, conducted by SIPPEREC (a city union), EDF power utility and Hub Telecom (Paris Airports), SIPPEREC has decided to give a 15-year license to deploy and operate a BPL network to Mecelec. The deployment will take about 5 years. It is one of the largest deployments announced to date.
