DoCoMo will sell simplified 3G handsets for customers who do not need or desire highly sophisticated functions. Vodafone did the same in January with a “Simple Mode 3” 2G handset.

Sprint Nextel is offering Fandango Mobile, a service enabling users to purchase movie tickets through the Web browser on their wireless phone.

In the US, advanced wireless services (AWS) spectrum mainly for 3G services will be auctioned from June 29th. The US government could only get between $8bn and $13bn, according to Yankee Group, because of sober bidding, carriers' heavy debt, and uncertainty about 3G demand.

OTE (Greece) is mulling the option of buying the remaining 34% stake it does not own in its mobile arm CosmOTE.

The President of Russia has signed the bill to introduce CPP (Calling Party Pays) in Russia. The change will take effect from July 1.

M6 Mobile (France; MVNO with Orange) is launching 3G service in France.
