Chinese mobile market
It is well expected that China would grant 3G licenses in the next months. China is the first mobile market with the number of subscribers (current some 400m), with the number of new subscriber added each year (59m in 2005), with strongest mobile operators (China Mobile has some some 250m subscribers and China Unicom has about 130m users). The introduction in such an environment would generate a lot of change. Deploying several 3G networks (basically 3 ) would need about $35-$40bn over five years. On average, this accounts for about 13%-15%% of the worldwide annual spending on mobile infra equipment. Of course, vendors do not want to loose a slice of this cake, and position themselves to be on time. Gaining market share early will be crucial, so competition will be fierce. Local vendors, Huawei and ZTE, should be the main beneficiaries of that spending. But there are also Datang, Shanghai Bell and all foreign vendors, searching for a portion of the cake. Be ready!
