CeBIT wrap up

CeBIT: Huawei launched three new 3G data card U626, U326 and the E600 data card. Samsung unveiled six new handset models (SGH Z700, SGH Z500, SGH i300, SGH E720, SGH E350, SGH E530). LG introduced or displayed a wide array of handsets: LG-U8150, LG-F9100 for IM, LG-SV360 and LG-KV3600, LG-KF1000. NEC demonstrated its latest 3G (W-CDMA) in-building solutions and introduced NLite(TM) Lx, the latest addition to its NLite family of digital microwave radio systems.

Another big event in Hanover was the wide-area Ethernet technology impact, with every vendor showing an Ethernet product. Convergence was also another big theme. It is Ethernet and IP/MPLS protocols on optical networks, it is also high-speed DSL access, it is IP taking place of traditional centralized networks and of course wireline/wireless convergence.

The other interesting side of CeBIT was Home networking, and the convergence of PC, TV, HiFi, VCR and PVR, camera, sound recorder, and MP3 appliances. The future is (but when?) called Multimedia Home Center.

On the wireless side, the spot is on 3G taking off with mobile TV as the killing application. It was presented as an alternative to fixed networking. But everybody does not agree on that.
