A few set of market information released this week:
- According to Northern Sky Research, mobile TV would attract up to 107m subscribers by 2010. Mobile TV will be a significant revenue generator over the long run, but NSR warns of excessive hype as several business and technical issues are still not resolved.
- According to In-Stat, 20% of US mobile users plan to drop landline phone service.
- Deloitte's TMT group has warned that, in 2006, mobile TV will disappoint, 3G adoption will be slower than expected, and the digital divide will grow.
- According to ABI Research, the global cellular market had reached 2.1bn mobile subscribers and is well on the way to reaching 3 billion before the end of 2008. By the end of 2010, there will be 1bn 3G subscribers around the world (or 30% of the global subscriber market), from 42m at the end of 2005.
