The optical market: Two new market updates from Infonetics and RHK. Worldwide revenues grew 10% to $9bn in 2004. While long haul market continues to fall 13% (16% in Sonet/SDH and 10% in WDM), SONET/SDH is still the main sub-segment with about $ 6.2bn in revenues. WDM market accounts for 31% or $2.8bn in 2004. Metro market reached 74% of total optical market. In 4Q04, EMEA had a 35% market share, followed by NA and APAC with 29% each and 7% for Latam. Fujitsu dominates the ROADM market with 75% market share. Alcatel is the worldwide global leader, followed by Nortel, Huawei and Fujitsu. Nortel leads in NA, Alcatel in EMEA and Huawei in APAC.

 

CeBIT preview: two weeks in advance, vendors are starting unveiling their new offerings in CeBIT. Nokia will introduce three new handsets (6230i, 6021 and 6030). Sony Ericsson will release four new candybar-style phones (W800, K300, K750 and J300). Zhone will present a triple play solution and NG optical solution. Marconi will demo optical access, multiservice access and NGN softswitching.
