Market Corner N53 (1)

A few set of market information released this week:

[            Dell’Oro reports that sales of IP telephony carrier equipment, including softswitches, media gateways, and hybrid media gateway softswitches, grew 26% to $1.6bn in 2004. Infonetics is in the same range with $1.7bn, but with a growth rate of 36%, and a projection of $ 5.9bn in 2008.

[            According to Ferris Research, spam will cost the world $50 bn in lost productivity and other expenses, of which one-third in the US only.

[            It is obvious: in spite of last year loud announcements, push-to-talk systems in Europe have not taken-off, and are still proprietary. Besides the lack of standardization, fears of revenue cannibalization and lack of talkie-walkie culture here in Europe seem the real barriers for PTT (push-to-talk) expansion.
