NTT is well-known for being at the forefront of technology race. Few months ago, NTT launched a huge initiative to deploy optical access systems. By the end of this year NTT' s FTTx subscribers will pass the 2.5m mark, with target of 30m optical-fiber access subscribers by the end of FY 2010. So it is financial huge effort for companies (NTT East and NTT West units) with sluggish performance. Instead of focusing on this effort, NTT is embarking into another titanic operation: full-scale NGN. According to its own roadmap, NTT will begin rolling out full-scale NGN services in the end of 2007. During 2006, NTT will trial NGN and start deploying nodes and service control systems from mid-2007.
