Perception of mobile services improving
According to a survey made by Research Institutes/ Buongiorno Vitaminic, about 50% of mobile users are now satisfied by the level of current mobile services. They found that services are more entertaining, varied, glamorous, interesting, and closer to personal tastes, of better quality and easily available. The increased satisfaction of users is reflected in the increased frequency and quantity of services acquired (+100%): 30% of people are downloading one product per month, 14% are buying one product per week (up from 5% in 2004), and the trend to buy high-medium value services (from €5 to €15 ) has also increased since 2004. Voice calls and SMS are the two main applications (with 98% popularity), followed by downloading ringtones, wallpapers, sound effects, multimedia games and taking pictures (with 68% popularity). When buying a mobile phone, main criteria are said to be entering contacts and telephone numbers in the agenda, then personalization and downloading the favorite ringtone. The Web remains the favorite channel for buying added value services, followed by SMS, in Europe, while WAP seems preferred by N.A. citizens.
A new US-focused survey (from Compete) reveals that new buyers are coveting "cool" phones and popular features this holiday season, even if they don't come free. It also highlights that 70% of mobile buyers are evaluating phones online before they buy, and that price isn't a primary shopping influence this season. Consumers are evaluating Bluetooth and music capabilities.
