Nortel has appointed Pavi Binning as executive VP and CFO, Joe Flanagan as senior VP of global operations and Joel Hackney as president of enterprise solutions and Joe Flanagan as senior VP of global operations.

BT (UK) expects to slash around 5,000 management positions this year under its restructuring program.

O2 (UK) is hiring around 1,400 people to help it face forecast iPhone demand, about half in customer services team and half in retail stores.

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) named Peter Dengate Thrush, 52, as chairman of the agency. Roberto Gaetano remains vice chairman.

Huawei: 7,000 employees with at least eight years of service resigned to be re-hired almost immediately. It seems that the new Chinese revised Law on Employment Contracts (opening permanent employment after 10 years of service) and too-high wages were the motivation for the move. A compensation package is offered when the employee resigns.
