Gemplus and Axalto, the two world leaders of smart cards, would merge their businesses into a new company, called Gemalto. Gemplus would have 55,4% of Gemalto, and Axalto would hold remaining 44,6%. Gemalto would be a $1,8bn company, of which 61% in telecom.

Sun is introducing two new RISC servers: Sun Fire T1000 and T2000. Based on Niagara (Ultrasparc T1) technology, they allied increased power, lower power consumption and low prices.

Electronic Arts bought Jamdat Mobile for some $680m this week.

Siemens is believed to split its loss-making SBS unit, and divest some parts.
