China phone sales
China's mobile phone market reached 61m units in the first nine months and 21m units in 3Q05. It is expected that domestic annual phone sales would reach 88m units this year. The market witnessed strong demand for low-end phones (accounting for 36% of the total) and for multimedia functions. The market is also marked with a concentration move in spite of National Development and Reform Commission allowing 13 new manufacturers, but with smaller vendors quitting the market. The number of vendor should decrease from 60 to 30-40 in coming months. 40% of the market is hold by top 4 vendors: Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and Bird. China exports also a lot of handsets, generating some $20bn in revenues in first nine months.
