The VoWLAN marketplace is warming

Pyramid Research expects Europe to take the lead in VoWLAN implementation, because wireline competitive operators need to offer new services, access the customer by new ways, and current local loop unbundling is a favorable period. VoWLAN could follow the same evolution charted by VoIP: slow uptake and years of resolving quality issues. Due to current high prices of dual-mode handsets and availability, another enterprise PBX replacement cycle set to start, enterprise customers should be the first to adopt VoWLAN services, while households VoWLAN users will have to wait a couple of years for affordable VoWLAN handsets. The replacement market holds substantial promise for enterprises: lower costs of ownership, lower cost of PBXs and CPEs, as well as moving cellular traffic to their WLAN network. But no doubt that migration will be gradual.
