FCC finally OKs mergers

The Federal Communications Commission finally approved the mergers of SBC-AT&T and Verizon-MCI. The approval comes with some restrictions (price caps on wholesale prices, provision of "naked DSL") that only apply for next 30 months. Criticism was voiced by the Consumers Union, saying that the decision would ultimately result in price increases for consumers and extinction for competitors. The reality is less companies in telecoms and cable, a strong concentration move with, as a result, less exacerbated competition.
