New GSA research confirms that ARPU for EDGE-enabled device users is much higher than for GSM/GPRS users (in the range from 20% to 100%), after a survey of EDGE operators worldwide, EDGE is attracting more customers to become mobile data users, attracted by higher speeds, EDGE capabilities and unlimited data price plan to enjoy a better Internet and intranet experience. So, EDGE seems the best current combination of capabilities and the winning strategy to prepare the market for 3G.
What mobile operators expect the most is increasing ARPU and AMPU, and it is done with EDGE. With 3G and 3G+ (HSDPA), they expect the same effect to be repeated.
