Télécoms Sans Frontières (TSF)
TSF is an NGO (non-governmental organization) that targets to bring telecommunications means in devastated regions (i.e. by hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions or tsunamis). The NGO says it can have communications up and operating almost anywhere in the world within 48 hours from several places around the world. In the few past weeks, they were operating in Guatemala and Pakistan. After the Pakistan earthquake, they were able to send two teams, one from Sri Lanka and one from France, and set up mobile satellite telecom centers in Pakistan for rescue teams and local authorities. They can transmit, voice, faxes, broadband and even video over broadband. The gear includes a variety of Inmarsat M4 satellite terminals operating at between 64 Kb/s and 128 Kb/s, as well as a Regional Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) equipment, operating at 144 Kb/s. Thanks for these guys and their action.
