Vendor strategies N50

Alcatel is targeting its way back in the Defense telecom activities. Some Thales Defense telecom activities are directly concerned, but EADS is also interested by that business.

In a separate move, Alcatel and Finmeccanica will merge their respective satellite activities. Two firms will be created: one, Alcatel Alenia Space, led by Alcatel and focused on the satellite industry, and another, Telespazio, led by Finmeccanica, and focused on services.

Marconi could announce a strategic distribution alliance with Huawei soon. Rumors continue that Huawei could sell its access and optics division, in spite of denial from Huawei executives.

Huawei is considering buying (within a consortium including Tel Africa) 51% of Nigerian Telecommunications (NITEL).
