Optical market update - 2/9/05

Optical market: Worldwide optical network hardware revenue grew 10% to $2.7bn in 2Q05, according to Infonetics Research. The growth is driven by the long haul market, finally back on the positive trend, rising 13% in the quarter. Alcatel leads with 16% market share, followed by Nortel with 12%, and Fujitsu and Huawei, each with 9%. "The overall optical network hardware market is growing at a healthy pace," comments Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder of Infonetics Research, and total annual revenues would grow to $11.3bn in 2008.
