Softbank has made an offer to buy TU-KA mobile units of KDDI, Japan, as an alternative to the failure getting a 3G Japanese license.

Telefonica plans to invest €9bn in fixed-line broadband Internet connections over next three years. Telefonica is targeting 6.5m ADSL users in Spain, and 3.5m overseas, by 2008.

The Dutch Government has sold 6% of telecom operator KPN share capital.

France Telecom could be interested by a stake in Bezeq Telecom (Israel), but could just target a 2% stake. FT denied interest in Wind (Italy), in spite of persisting rumors it could spend $ 4-6bn to buy it.

Matáv (Hungary) is to be renamed Magyar Telekom.
