TV Mobile in Europe
Is it the end of a European bad Series? The EU Commission has released a draft statement to select the DVB-H standard for broadcasting mobile TV in European nations. One single mobile TV standard will avoid current multi-standard confusion, non-interoperability and dispersed efforts. The DVB-H standard is likely to be published next month. The EU Commission move appears as a setback to Qualcomm and its MediaFlo technology, and to S. Korea companies pushing their T-DDMB technology. Furthermore, DVB-H is the main direction adopted by most countries. But this technology choice does not solve the economical problem. TV broadcasters and mobile operators are still struggling on the mobile TV business model: ad-funded for the first against paid for the second. When the mobile TV market will take off, is another story!
