EMEA mobile phone 1Q07 shipments
The EMEA market is increasingly concentrated, with Nokia as market leader, almost tripling its second Samsung, and top four vendors controlling 84% of the market in 1Q07. Nokia continues to perform very well, permanently refreshing its portfolio with new models. Then Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson remain very tight in the 12%-15% range; but stories are different. Sony Ericsson outperformed with a 51% growth in the quarter, gaining ground on all competitors, now on the heels of Motorola that continues to struggle in the market, trying to speed introduction of new models and streamlining operations everywhere. Samsung benefited from the Motorola problems and jumped in the second place. It made strong sales with its new Ultra Edition handsets, and expects to ramp volumes in developed markets in 3G and HSDPA.
