EU roaming: final talks

Publié le par Jean Arnal

It seems that EU roaming price capping still faces hurdles. Negotiations involved the EU Commission, the EU Parliament, national regulators and government and indirectly MNOs. The goal is to cut roaming charges before the beginning of this summer. Talks are on the level of price capping: the Parliament' s committee has called for a €0.4 per minute, while telecom ministers agreed ona €0.5 per minute. A compromise is in sight with a €0.45 perminute limit on the retail price of making an international call within the E.U. In order to agree on this compromise, the EU Parlaiment vote on this issue has been delayed until at least May 22, just in time to vote the project and submit it to the telecom minister meeting on June 7 to be approved. Useless to say that such a decision is very popular and that 70% of Europeans are behind the EU push.
