Telstra continues facing political opposition to its project of new national broadband fiber-optic network. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) already condamned the project; now the government and the Labor party said they will not provide Telstra with an opportunity to builsd its new network.

Telefonica Germany and HanseNet (Germany) are partnering to setup a DSL network. HanseNet is a subsidiary of Telecom Italia. HanseNet will also supply mobile services (from Telefonica O2 Germany) to its ADSL customers.

Cablevision (MSO in the US) has agreed to a buy-out by its controlling and founding shareholder, the Dolan family. Cablevision will therefore become private.
