1Q07 Mobile phone sales
First researches on 1Q07 handset sales start to be published. Strategics Analytics found that 252m units were shipped in 1Q07, up 12% only. This was the first quarter in two years that growth has been below 20%. This is apparently due to excess inventory sold off in the quarter. Nokia shipped 91m units (+21%) and 36% market share; Motorola 45.4m units (-1.5%) and back 18% market share; Samsung 34.8m units (+20%) and 13.8% market share; Sony Ericsson 21.8m (+64%) and 8.8% market share, LG 15.8m units (-7%) and 6.3% market share. Numbers are eloquent: Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson are going forwards in volume and market share, while Motorola, and LG are going backwards. IDC researches are not very different. Nokia reported a decline in ASP of almost 14% in emerging markets.
