Mobile TV is alive!
Nobody knows what the market would be in a mid-term, in spite of market researches more or less optimistic, but players are very active on the subject. Everybody is preparing itself. Nine of the US TV broadcast groups (covering 85% of total TV households) have decided to launch their own mobile TV offer within the Open Mobile Video Coalition, and speed the development of a mobile variant for digital broadcast TV. Samsung, LG and Harris have announced a Mobile-Pedestrian-Handheld technology pursuing the similar goal. Of course, Qualcomm' s MediaFlo and Crown Castle Modeo have more or less the same ambitions.
A wave of optimism rose at the Mobile TV and Video Summit, part of the National Association of Broadcasters annual convention, and everyone there was thinking of a mass market opportunity. First results of the Modeo trial in NY were used to show customer interest in the service.
