USA: mobile phones forbidden in planes?

Surprise: the FCC recommends not to allow mobile telephony in American planes, due to unsolved interference problems with embarked electronics, the opposition of largest US MNOs (Verizon and ATT), the main partner Boeing (Connexion Direct) throwing the towel one year ago, few alternative solutions, and a strong opposition from passengers to increased discomfort (privacy and noise) during flights. Europe and Asia, however, have made a different choice and some projects are closed to be commercially launched. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) has yet to decide the use or not of mobile phones in flights.
