3G Americas and Informa Telecoms & Media announced that the region accounted for about 22% of the 461m new GSM additions in 2006, and reached 310m subscribers at the end of the year. LATAM added 81m new GSM customers to bring the total customer base to over 200m mark (+66%). In the US, the GSM family added some 19m new customers (+24%). In contrast, CDMA added 48m CDMA subscribers worldwide, 6m in LATAM to bring its total customer base to 62m, and 13m in the USA. Globally, GSM addition growth rate is triple the CDMA growth rate in the Americas.
