Recent WiMAX News
WiMAX is very busy now, and deployments are spreading in various locations and continents. We already reported deployments in Latin America by Telmex and Alcatel-Lucent.
More recently, IBM received an order to build a $4m citywide WiMAX network in Brownsville, Texas. Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Chunghwa Telecom to deploy Taiwan’s first Universal WiMAX (802.16e-2005) network, and MCMC (Malaysia) completes WiMAX evaluation prior to awarding concessions. Telecom Namibia has selected Alvarion to deploy its WiMAX network, and Swisscom has announced plans to commence a WiMAX field trial in the Swiss city of Boltigen.
KDDI and Fujitsu announced their joint development of a high-efficiency amplifier applicable for mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e-2005). Alcatel-Lucent has invested in WiMAX chip maker Sequans.
