IPTV survey

Accenture and EIU unveiled the results of an industry survey on risks and rewards of IPTV deployments. On the rosy side, more than 60% of respondents believe that IPTV will generate significant revenues within three years. On the black side, more than half (52%) of respondents said they are not confident in significant IPTV revenues within the next twelve months. On sources for IPTV revenues, respondents said that advertising (46%) should be the main stream, while 74% of network operators see subscription fees. Reasons for pursuing the IPTV market can be ranked: new revenues stream with 42% of respondents, acquiring new customers with 28%, and increasing sale of broadband access connections (21%). While main motivation for consumer spending is given, by 64% of respondents and 74% of network operators, as discounted pricing through service bundling.
In short, mid-term IPTV, yes, short-term IPTV, perhaps no.
