Media giants turn to mobile

Publié le par Jean Arnal

CBS has formally created CBS Mobile, a new division within CBS Interactive that will further develop the company's mobile operation, and launches 3 websites for for mobile users. Hearst Magazines is pushing into the mobile space with the introduction of new cellphone sites. The Washington Post, Newsweek, The New York Times and Forbes have also recently introduced their wireless sites.

Like a phoenix, Mobile ESPN is back. It was launched in early 2006 as an MVNO backed by Sprint Nextel, but stopped taking customers in October and shut down. ESPN Mobile is set to be resurrected. First ESPN has signed an exclusive, multi-year deal with Verizon Wireless Vcast data service. Then ESPN announced a deal with MediaFLO parent Qualcomm to deploy the mobile TV service in the next few months. Not too bad for a dead company.
