Nokia will jointly work with Avaya on fixed to mobile convergence applications for enterprises. It introduced seven new handsets (three new CDMA models: Nokia 6265 , 2255 model, 2125 phone; and four GSM/UMTS models: 6280 , 6270, 6111, and 6060 ) to fill gaps in its portfolio. Finally, Nokia will migrate its mobile Web browser to open source software, partnering with Apple Computer to use its Safari Internet browser as the core engine in its future web Series 60 phones.
Ericsson introduced in-flight GSM base station, and will expand its WCDMA portfolio.
Sony Ericsson introduced three new handsets: S600, Z520, J210, and V600.
Motorola intends to regain market share in the China handset market. According to Gartner, Motorola lost 5 points market share to 12% in 1Q05. It has introduced PEBL and SLVR models. The PEBL V6, is a slim oval clamshell, while the SLVR V8 is a candy-bar version of the RAZR clamshell.
Samsung pre-announced flat 2Q05 flat handset sales, but maintain forecast of 100m units shipped in 2005 and worldwide market share at 20%. The operating margin is forecast by Lehman Brothers to decrease 5 points to 13%.
Siemens will invest $36m in a new 3G R&D center in China.
Matsushita expects to triple its global handset market share over the next five years, as it introduced its 3G product line outside of Japan
