100-Gig Ethernet: a future standard
It is done. The IEEE 802.3 Higher Speed Study Group (HSSG) has voted in favor of 100 Gbit/s as the next standard speed for Ethernet. It closes a period of uncertainty with a lot of proposals (serious or less realistic) on what speed ( 40G, 80G, 100G, 120G) has to be chosen. Data centers are likely to adopt 100-Gbit/s Ethernet as a means of connecting machines in high-density environments, and telecom networks have little choice but to follow. Now, the standardization work can really begin.
