Carrier Ethernet: strong interest in multipoint Ethernet services using either virtual private LAN (VPLS) technology or Sonet with RPR, as well as Ethernet access technologies on fiber and/or copper. Market demand (by SPs) and competitive pressure are very high. Startups are generating the most buzz in the Ethernet access technologies (Anda, Covaro, Hatteras, Actelis, Ceterus Networks, Metrobility, MRV, Paradyne, and RAD Data). Cisco, Alcatel, Nortel and Tellabs dominate the VPLS and Sonet with RPR segments.
