ATCA: The Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) is expected to provide a standard platform for carrier-grade applications. With I/O speed, limited to 3.2-Gbit/s, ATCA backplane capacity has not caught up to the needs of metro and core, and is finding its first targets at the edges of the network. Many vendors (Alcatel, Nortel, Motorola, Sun, ..) have adopted ATCA and chipmakers are strongly supporting the standard.
