Metro Ethernet equipment market
Infonetics Research found that Metro Ethernet equipment sales should triple to $15bn in 2009, from $5bn in 2005. Ethernet would account for an increasing portion of metro capex in coming years. Carrier Ethernet switches and routers sales should double to $4.6bn in 2009 (from 2005 sales of $2.1bn), while Metro Ethernet port shipments should increase in the next few years by more than 700% between 2005 and 2009. The majority of ports sold would be VDSL copper ports and EPON ports.
