New ITU standard: VDSL2 - 5 June 2005

New standard:

ITU has ratified the VDSL2 standard, with speeds from 70Mbit/s downstream and 30Mbit/s upstream to symmetrical 100Mbit/s delivery. Infineon and Ikanos have already unveiled complying chipset, while Metalink will announce its own chip later. VDSL2 is targeted to compete with cable and satellite for very high-speed services (TVHD, VOD, ...), but could also find a market as the access complement to FTTC build outs.
