World mobile coverage

Publié le par Jean Arnal

Mobile networks will provide coverage to 90% of the world's population by 2010. But the study, commissioned by the GSM Association, found it could be better if the governments properly use universal service funds. Governments had collected more than $6bn from the telecoms industry, and for the moment just distributed $1.5bn. On this sum, just 5% or $75m has been used to extend mobile coverage. More than 450m people in rural zones should be covered if the unspent $4.4bn is used to expand coverage.
