Grupo Algar (Brazil) is bidding to buy Telecom Italia' s stake in Brasil Telecom.

Telecom Italia has to face additional issues with over 20 employees arrested for illegal wiretapping activities in Italy. This does not discourage at least six private equity firms preparing bids for the TI assets. TI' s turmoil intensified last week when Prime Minister Prodi was bowing to pressure and agreeing to discuss the case before the Senate amid increasing criticism on the government position to interfere in private business.

Holland has sold the remaining 8% stake it had in KPN.
