Wireless Internet in Silicon Valley

Publié le par Jean Arnal

The Wireless Silicon Valley Task Force has appointed Silicon Valley Metro Connect (with IBM and Cisco as memebers) to launch wireless Internet services for 2.4m inhabitants in the Silicon Valley. This Silicon Valley project is one of the biggest of its kind and still needs approvals from individual municipalities. It will produce a huge 'Wi-Fi hotspot'. Metro Connect says it will offer up to 1Mb/s service for the "free base service" and will offer premium fee-based services such as wireless VoIP and video streaming. The infrastructure will be based on Cisco's mesh wireless technology, with IBM providing network design and integration services as well as applications.
